Head Quarters (a small town trip)
A small head shop opened in Billings in 1970, marking the arrival of the counter-culture in Montana. Local authorities, including the police, aldermen, judges, and other public figures, conspired to eliminate this new cultural presence. This 27-minute documentary provides a detailed account of the year-long struggle by the “powers that be” to suppress the cultural changes. The film features interviews with those involved, along with court documents, newspaper articles, and supporting photographs, recounting the story of the hippie invasion that defied the law and emerged victorious.
The documentary was directed by Kirk LeClaire and written by Stan Everson.
